KingsFord Productions Ltd: News Reporters Character Profile and Costumes

The news reporters will be used within the last 30 seconds of our film, to mark the ending of the opening sequence and leave the audience on a cliff-hanger. We want to leave the ending open to make our film different and inspirational; we have used our inspiration from the film 'Saw' which leaves every one of their films as a cliff-hanger, so that there can be another film. Also, to create a lasting image in the audience's imagination, we want to leave our film as a cliff-hanger because we can then develop our story furher for the antagonist and his peers. It also acts as a narrative hook which draws the audience in and persuades them to keep watching.

There will be a male and a female character reading the news in smart clothing. They will be male and female because most news round updates consist of this on the television, which gives our audience a sense of normality and security in comparison to our main character ‘Douglas’ who connotes death and presents a great depth of fear.

We have also drawn inspiration from ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ which also uses news clippings and reports,in the set-up, to imply that it is based upon a true story, which makes it seem more realistic and therefore more likely to happen in real life. We want to make our film as realistic as possible so that it is believable and the audience experience genuine feelings of fear, we are going to relate to our inspirations as much as possible.

The male character will be dressed in suit trousers and a suit jacket with a shirt, to look smart and well mannered, he will be around the age of 40, and we want our male character to look around the age of 40 and be dressed smart because we want to make our film as realistic as possible and to do this we need to stick to typical conventions and what our target audience would think of in reference to news reporters in the media to date. The woman character will also be dressed in smart clothes, consisting of a suit skirt and jacket with a shirt underneath, she will be around the age of 35-40 also, to make this more realistic. We want them to be around the same age to show that they know each other well and are experienced news readers. The voices of the news readers should be with an accent of 'recieved pronunciation' (RP). The news readers are the only people who are not affected by the killer, which will also connote normality.
